My Teaching Philosophy

Teaching Philosophy: About

I believe in creating learning environments that are warm, safe and welcoming for all students. Students learn best when they feel understood and accepted in their classroom environment. This starts with building respectful relationships with students and fostering a sense of community. It is important to get to know each student and to affirm their identities. I use differentiation to ensure that learning is accessible to all students and each child has the tools they need to be successful.

I believe that it is important for children to feel empowered as students and to take ownership of their learning. I aim to use a student-centred approach in my teaching. I love giving students an opportunity to share their voice and make decisions about their learning. I follow best practises by sharing learning goals and success criteria with my students, allowing them to understand what successful learning looks like.

As an educator, I strive to create rich learning opportunities. I love developing integrated lessons and making real-world connections to deepen students' understanding of curriculum. I aim to maximize student engagement by creating interactive, hands-on activities. I love engaging students in deep thinking through questioning techniques and activities designed to build inquiry skills.

My approach to classroom management is calm, consistent and equitable. I believe it is important to set firm rules and expectations early on. I always maintain a calm demeanour when addressing difficult situations in the classroom and I always treat my students with dignity and respect. I believe building positive teacher-student relationships is another important component of effective classroom management.
